The Yankees Of Yesterday

Today in 1923: Newly-built Yankee Stadium, Bronx home of the New York Yankees, opens with a game against the Red Sox; Babe Ruth hits a three-run homer to win, 4-1. An opening day program from our collection.

Let me add, on a personal note, that the Yankees of today are not the Yankees of yesteryear; indeed, not in over 30 years of yesteryear. My only complaint with their move (across the road) to a new stadium is that  they didn’t move out of New York City entirely. We would’ve been spared the latest outrages and lunacy of everything leading up, for instance, to a narcissistic punk like “A-Rodand related insults to a workaday reality.
