Deno’s Mermaid from 1st Mermaid Parade Returns for 30th!

Congratulatulations to Dick Zigun and Coney Island USA on the 30th Anniversary of the Mermaid Parade, which takes place this Saturday, June 23rd. Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park has been a proud sponsor of the parade since its first year, when we also had a Mermaid float in the parade! We’re happy to announce that the Mermaid created by Wonder Wheel Park founder Denos D. Vourderis from a fun-house figure for the very first Mermaid Parade in 1983 is coming out of retirement for Saturday’s big event.

The circa 1939 Plaster of Paris figure encrusted in sea glass and shells–her name is Serena!–is being restored in honor of the 30th Anniversary of the Mermaid parade and will be the centerpiece of Deno’s Wonder Wheel Park’s float. Marching with the float will be two live Deno’s Wonder Wheel Mermaids and members of the Deno’s Wonder Wheel Bicycle Racing Team. On…
