Asphalt Aesthetics

In Collaboration with Kris Lucius and the DOT

In case anyone’s curious about this new Brooklyn street art (filled with broken glass!) at Jay Street and Prospect, here’s the explanation: It’s called Asphalt Tattoo, and it is the work of landscape architect Paula Meijerink. She installed it over the weekend as part of the DOT’s pARTners program, in which local artists “enliven the streetscape” with temporary installations at plazas, triangles, jersey barriers, and other public spaces. The tattoo is only temporary, however; it’ll be there for about a year, and hopefully the DOT cones will keep people from driving over it. {read more} Gothamist
