Spiegelworld offers up a hodgepodge of pleasure in the Old World tradition of a Belgian spiegeltent. Located on Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport in Manhattan, Spiegelworld was established in 2006 and is a unique addition to the city’s growing list of exotic entertainment venues.
Popular across Europe during the early 20th century, the luxurious traveling spiegeltents were used as dance halls and music/cabaret venues, featuring intimate in-the-round seating, ornate wooden paneling, mirrors, stained-glass windows, and velvet-upholstered seating booths.
Surrounding the spiegeltent proper is a motley-arranged village of alfresco bars and dining, private cabanas, a dance floor and a VIP speak-easy bar. Each year, Spiegelworld has presented their annual 12 week summer series combining traditional circus, cabaret, variety, theatre and burlesque themes with 21st century ambience (e.g. Absinthe, La Vie and Desir).
